My name is Mikaela Farasyn. By being interested in nonprofit communication strategy, I work as a public relations associate for DanceAbility, an international nonprofit focused on the use of contemporary dance therapy for people with physical and cognitive disabilities. I work alongside a PR specialist by developing news releases and contact lists for potential donors. This is where I cultivated a passion for public relations.

Currently, I work at Allen Hall Public Relations, a student run PR firm at the University of Oregon. As the nations leading advocacy group for breast cancer awareness, I am an account executive for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. I serve the foundation by promoting their personal brand and constructing events to raise awareness and bring in potential donors.

As a communications intern for Western Communications, a newspaper publisher for Oregon and California, I helped manage and organize outside sales representatives. I acted as a primary liaison between the client and the advertising department as their public relations facilitator by serving as the primary media relations point of contact. While working with Western Communications, I wrote event articles for magazines such as the 2015 Deschutes County Fair Guide and the 2015 Sisters Folk Festival Magazine.

I will earn a B.S. in Spring 2017 from the School of Journalism and Communications at the University of Oregon with a major in public relations and a minor in nonprofit administration.
